On Sunday, July 26 2026, we will hold our first special event at Dengama, a Japanese ceramics shop in Asakusa.
Visitors will have the rare opportunity to watch a professional kintsugi artisan at work and purchase one-of-a-kind ceramics restored with genuine urushi lacquer and gold.
If you are visiting Asakusa and are curious about traditional Japanese craftsmanship, this is a wonderful chance to experience kintsugi beyond museums, books, and photographs.

Watch a Kintsugi Artisan at Work
Whenever the artisan is not assisting with repair consultations, a live kintsugi demonstration will take place at the venue.
You will be able to see the careful, detailed process up close and observe how damaged ceramics are repaired by hand using traditional materials and techniques.
As the demonstration may pause while repair consultations are taking place, we cannot guarantee a continuous performance throughout the day. However, visitors are welcome to stop by and watch whenever work is in progress.
Purchase One-of-a-Kind Kintsugi Ceramics
A selection of unique kintsugi-restored ceramics will also be available for purchase.
These pieces were originally cared for by Dengama but were unexpectedly chipped, cracked, or broken. Our artisans have restored them with kintsugi, adding a new landscape of gold to each piece and giving it a second life.
Every piece is individually repaired by hand, so no two are exactly alike. Prices reflect the time, skill, lacquer, and precious metal required for traditional kintsugi.
For visitors looking for a meaningful Japanese object to take home, these are not simply decorative souvenirs. They are usable works of craftsmanship, shaped by both their original maker and the artisan who restored them.
A limited number of Tsugu Kit Gold, our traditional kintsugi kit for home use, will also be available.
About Repair Consultations
Visitors may also bring cracked, chipped, or broken ceramics for an initial repair consultation and estimate.
However, repair requests are primarily intended for customers who live in Japan or who can arrange for someone in Japan to collect the completed item.
Please note:
Completed repairs must be collected in person from Kintsugi Tsugu Tsugu Asakusa
We do not ship repaired ceramics within Japan or overseas
Traditional kintsugi repairs usually take at least three to four months
Repair consultations require detailed communication about the condition, use, limitations, price, and collection arrangements
Our artisans can manage simple communication in English, but they are not fluent. Translation apps may be used.
Anyone wishing to leave an item for repair in English must attend with a Japanese-speaking companion who can translate the full explanation and conditions accurately.
For overseas visitors, we especially recommend enjoying the live demonstration and browsing the finished kintsugi ceramics available for purchase.
Repair Consultation System
Repair consultations are available without an appointment and will be handled in order of arrival.
During busy periods, you may be asked to write down your name and phone number and wait nearby. We will call you when it is your turn.
Please return within five minutes of receiving the call. Otherwise, we may need to assist the next visitor first.
Bringing an item for an estimate does not obligate you to proceed with the repair.
Items We May Be Unable to Accept
We cannot accept:
Items with a longest side exceeding 30 cm
Thin glassware
Small or heavily fragmented pieces of glass
Damage to delicate glass stems or other areas where strength cannot be guaranteed
We may also decline other items depending on their condition.
Any item brought for consultation must be clean and free of food or residue.
After a Kintsugi Repair
Traditionally repaired ceramics cannot be used in:
Microwaves
Dishwashers
Ovens
Direct flame
Some pieces may have additional restrictions depending on the material and location of the damage.
For example, repaired earthenware pots cannot be used over direct heat or with water above 95°C.
Repair Collection
Any items accepted at Dengama will be taken to Kintsugi Tsugu Tsugu Asakusa and repaired by our artisans.
