15-24th 2024, we are planning a new style exhibition of authentic kintsugi works held together with students of our kintsugi classes!
You can enjoy the art of kintsugi by learning about traditional Japanese culture, history, and philosophy. You can even purchase real kintsugi vessels!
International visitors are also welcome! You can freely visit and see the kintsugi works.
Why we start the Tsugu Tsugu Kintsugi Art Exhibition 2024?
Kintsugi was born from the Japanese wabi-sabi spirit. Nowadays, kintsugi is paid attention from abroad for its artistic value and unique attributes. Furthermore, in Japan, kintsugi also contributes to the SDGs by reusing (upcycling) broken objects.
We Tsugu Tsugu is an unique company with the mission of "Kintsugi to Move the World". We offer more than 10 kintsugi classes per week at our two studios in Ebisu and Asakusa in Tokyo, and many students are repairing their broken vessels with kintsugi under the instruction of our kintsugi professionals almost every day.
We love traditional lacquer art and hand work. It is our plessure to make the people happy by repairing their cherished items with kintsugi by their hands.
Last year, we conducted a survey to all students to improve the service and value of our kintsugi classes. As a result, we received the opinion that many of them would like to see the other students' and teachers' kintsugi art works. This is one of the reasons why we started organizing this first kintsugi exhibition since Tsugu Tsugu was founded.
We would like to make this event an unique opportunity for not only the students and their related families/friends, but also for people beyond borders, age, and gender to spread the charm of kintsugi!
What are the benefits of participating in this Kintsugi Art Exhibition 2024?
Exhibitors of Kintsugi works
The exhibitors are the students and instructors of our kintsugi classes as well as the artisans who have a relationship of trust with us.
This is an opportunity for our students to show their efforts not only to their family and friends but also widely to the world!! (The admission is free for any visitors.)
In addition, we hope that seeing the kintsugi works of the other students who attend the same class will inspire them for the future works and motivate them to improve the kintsugi skills. We also display the works by instructors and artisans, expecting that all the participants/visitors can learn about various techniques.
Furthermore, only if they wish to do so, the participants can sell their own kintsugi art works! Many customers overseas visit Tsugu Tsugu to purchase authentic kintsugi vessels, so the participants have a chance to sell their kintsugi works through Tsugu Tsugu's strong and wide channel! (We hope this will encourage the creators for the future activities.)
On the final day, Sunday, September 22, snacks and soft drinks will be provided, so everyone can get to know each other better at a reception with our instructors!
lastly, for students who exhibit their works, a professional photographer will take a photo of each piece of work. Tsugu Tsugu will give the photo data for free. (The photos will be taken during the exhibition period)
Visitors who wish to see kintsugi works (free of charge)
For those who are interested in seeing reak kintsugi vessels; family and friends of Tsugu Tsugu students, tourists who visit Japan for sightseeing, and the tour/hotel companies who are always asked about our genuine kintsugi by their clients. We thank all of you, and this is the time to meet your needs.
We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to see and enjoy many kintsugi pieces for free. We can also explain kintsugi to visitors, as part of your Japanese traditional culture tourism!
(Note: English speaking instructors are mostly there but not always there, so please let us know in advance if you really need a English guidance.)
Not only Tsugu Tsugu students but also any visitor can ask questions about all about kintsugi during this period there! You can also purchase the kintsugi vessels and kits to do kintsugi at home!
During the exhibition period, we will also hold the weekly "Kintsugi Live", (Instagram / YouTube live) at the venue! If you are fine, we may interview visitors :)
